Tips for New Teachers

Technically I am still a new teacher, but these are a few things I learned my first year.

1. Don't feel afraid to ask for help. (I was lucky to have a great team at my school and they let me know that I was always welcome to ask for help whether it was for lesson plan ideas or classroom management.)

2. Those first two weeks are REALLY important to set up classroom rules and procedures.

3. Kids are kids. They will talk when they're not suppose to, hide toys in their desks, not pay attention, forget to put their name on their paper, and make silly jokes. It comes with the territory and honestly it's one of the reasons I love teaching so much.

4. You will probably cry at least once (Just make sure it's not in front of the kids or your principal).

5. Each day it will get easier. I remember my first few weeks were so overwhelming, but each day it gets easier and easier.

6. Always remember why you are teaching. The kids.
